We are having 3 days Psychiatric rotation starting from yesterday, it is only the 1st half of it in 2nd Semester, and the 2nd half of it will be 1 week later.
Today we are studying organic disorder of brain and disorder of Personality. Disorder of Personality divided into
Paranoid Personality
this is characterized by oversensitivity, tendency to bear grudges, suspiciousness, jealous; blame their own failures on others and overvalue their own abilities. Under extreme stress, they can develop transient paranoid psychotic symptoms eg hallucinations or delusion (living in their own world). They thought only they can, like USA!
Schizoid Personality
This is characterized by indifferent to social relationships, they have restricted range of emotional expression and experiences, reserved, shy, introspective and eccentric. They may have a preference as mathematicians or IT field. People like me?
Dissocial Personality (anti-social)
characterized by irresponsible and antisocial behavior at the age at least 18 years old, they are prone to drug and alcohol abuse.
Emotionally unstable type
Impulsive type
episodic loss of control of aggressive impulses, resulting in serious destruction of property. During stress, outbursts of anger and violence may occur.
Borderline type
Instability of self-image, interpersonal relationship and mood. Such individuals may have chronic feelings of emptiness and boredom, and their liability to become involved in intense and unstable relationships may cause repeated emotional crises.
Histrionic personality
excessive emotionality, attention-seeking and overdramatic behavior. They are often empathic and sexually flirtatious, and sometimes frigid. They got many styles just want to attract people!
So which type of personality are you in? You want to say you don’t have personality disorder? Then you’re high risk of getting Paranoid type. Hehe.. kidding…
Not only that, we had a chance to visit the patients in the ward, once i entered there, I almost fainted looking at the amount of patients, they are a lot, their bed just side by side, completely ignore the WHO rules and regulation about the minimum distance in between beds. Since they are not infective, I think should be okay to ignore it.
Some patients are walking at corridor without motive, just keep walking up and down, BlueStar said, they looks like zombies in Resident Evil. We managed to interview 3 patients with mental retardation, they are severe in degree, one of them is down syndrom patient.
Tomorrow our topic will be sexual disorder and sleeping disorder. Which one do you want me discuss of?
